Q. So, what exactly IS The Mel and El Show?
A. It’s kind of like Bridesmaids.
Except shorter.
And with less food poisoning.
The Mel and El Show is a brand new, edgy, witty and irreverent web series (with songs!) based on real-life best friends and NYC comedy duo turned cult phenomenon, Mel & El. Best friends since they were kids, Mel & El face a new chapter in their lives when Mel gets engaged to her "beyonce" (black + fiancee = beyonce) - just as El experiences the longest dry spell of her life. With a year until the wedding, Mel & El vow to know no bounds in an unconventional year of celebrating the end of one era and the beginning of the next.
Episode 1.01: PILOT
Mel & El face a new chapter in their lives when Mel gets engaged. Within seconds of the proposal, Mel is on the phone but El is at a party, too busy drunkenly flirting with Steve Guttenberg to focus. Later, when El accidentally finds the ring at an arts camp reunion, Mel silently re-caps the exciting news and the girls celebrate the engagement backstage - just in time to perform.
Episode 1.02: SHE MARRIED A DOLPHIN
At Mel & El’s favorite gay bar, fondue is on the table and wedding anxiety is in the air. El, inspired by a New York Times article about a woman who married a dolphin, decides to get married – to her dildo. El quickly realizes that marriage isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Meanwhile, Mel will do anything to get her wedding listed in Times, including breaking and entering.
Episode 1.03: GOODLADIES
Panic takes over when Mel’s fiancée slashes the wedding’s cheese budget. El pitches in to save the Parisien Saffron Brie tasting station by trying to find a sugar daddy at a doctors’ and lawyers’ convention – a gay doctors’ and lawyer’s convention, as it turns out. Mel’s menopausal neighbor almost saves the day when she gives Mel boxes of unused tampons. Mel & El quickly become pad pushers, working a local middle school to sell those tampons. But when the Hall Monitor catches on, Mel has to stash her stash.
MEL & EL are Melanie Adelman and Ellie Dvorkin - real life best friends who have known each other since they were 12 years old. Described as a modern-day Laverne & Shirley, MEL & EL are a riotously funny duo who have quickly become an NYC cult phenomenon. Their critically acclaimed shows - MEL & EL: THIS SHOW RHYMES, MEL & EL: SHOW & TELL, MEL & EL: GAY MARRIED & MEL & EL: OUR TIME OF THE MONTH - have enjoyed sold-out runs at venues like Comix, The Duplex, Joe's Pub & Ars Nova. MEL & EL were awarded the Backstage Bistro Award for their song "Fagnet", the Collaboration Award given by the NY Coalition of Professional Women in the Arts and Media, were named one of the Village Voice's BEST OF NYC and were recently chosen as GO Magazine's Very Best in NYC Comedy. Their debut musical comedy album, MEL & EL: SHE'S MY BITCH is available on iTunes.
